В MySQL версии 5 появились проблемы с выполнением запросов, которые выполнялись отменно в прошлой версии.

но всё это можно и не делать, если у вас есть доступ к конфигурации MySQL. Т.е. попросту говоря, у вас свой сервер или вы и есть хостер :)
Необходимо закомментировать следующие настройки MySQL (my.ini или my.cnf):
STRICT_TRANS_TABLES
NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER
NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION
Они отвечают за более строгое поведение СУБД по отношению к выполняемым запросам.
